Selected for the Photographic Portrait Prize 2006 of the National Portrait Gallery in London, Kirill Smolyakov lives and works between Belarus and England were he studied and was a resident at the University of Newport.
He was born in 1983 in Novopolotsk (Belarus).
The photographs from his series “Belarus. Back to Unkonwn” capture with melancholy and realism, landscapes and the everyday life of his native country, to where he went back after three years spent in the West. He could measure how he now differs from those who stayed there
